Communications, one of Hampton Road’s oldest advertising agencies,
is turning 25 this month. In lieu of champagne toasts and standard
party fare, the firm’s management and employees are celebrating
more subtly—by organizing a “Day of Giving” for
the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a nonprofit organization which
assists soldiers who have been severely injured during conflicts
in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other regions.
“The Hampton Roads community has been the backbone of our
success since we started as a two-man shop in 1980,” said
Joseph Takach, CEO and owner of Meridian Group. “We are
honored to support our neighbors and veterans through the Wounded
Warrior Project and humbled by the sacrifices they have made for
our city and nation.”
The agency is committed to raising $25,000, for the WWP to help
create and deliver "Wounded Warrior Packs" to servicemen
and women at military hospitals throughout the country. The packs
are filled with necessities and comfort items including clothing,
calling cards, personal CD players and magazines, which provide
soldiers with the items most needed and requested as they prepare
for a long-term rehabilitative stay. More importantly, distribution
of the packs lets patients know that they are not forgotten and
that the WWP will be there to help meet their needs and the needs
of their families as they prepare for life after military service.
A golf tournament and live auction has been scheduled for Monday,
Aug. 22 at the Cavalier Yacht & Country Club in Virginia Beach.
Corporate sponsorships for golf holes, a cocktail reception and
dinner festivities are available.
