| (Virginia Beach, Va) – If you were to call Meridian Group next Wednesday, October 24th, feel free to be a little jealous when no one answers the phone. For the second year in a row, the local marketing-communications agency will be observing “Take Back Your Time” day, a major U.S. / Canadian initiative to challenge the epidemic of overwork, over-scheduling, and time famine that now threatens our health, our families, and our communities.
The only item on the To-Do list for the agency’s employees will be to report back to CEO Joseph Takach on how the day was spent. “In today’s time-impoverished society, we feel it is our responsibility as an employer to provide our people with an opportunity to improve their lives through personal fulfillment, even if it is only for one day”, said Takach. Last year’s observance of “Take Back Your Time” resulted in employees catching up with their friends, family, and those long overdue home projects.
According to Timeday.org, only 14% of Americans will get a vacation of two weeks or longer this year. The remaining 86% will settle for a vacation consisting of a long weekend. Unlike 127 other countries, such as Australia, which provides its work force with four weeks of leave by law, or the Europeans who have four to five weeks off annually, the U.S. has no minimum paid leave, which has allowed many corporations to due away with paid-leave altogether.
