Get To Know A Groupie: Calvin Gray

September 10, 2020

Get to know Calvin Gray, our UI-UX Designer / Front-End Developer.

I’ve been at the agency: One month.

When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is: “Bennett (my son), stop jumping on my head.”

Weekends are for: Family and friends.

Drink of choice: Sweet Tea.

The accomplishment I’m most pround of: Surviving 2020, at least so far. 🙂

Most played artists on Spotify: Gorilaz, Beastie Boys, Stevie Wonder, Old Crow Medicine Show, Missy Elliott, Hillsong United, OutKast, Fugazi, N.E.R.D., Peter Gabriel, Daft Punk, A Tribe Called Quest, Kendrick Lamar, Architecture in Helsinki, Gnarls Barkley and Zac Brown Band. In other words, my taste is varied.

My current desktop picture is: The default image from my current MAC OS update. I have no extra time to think about unessential details these days.

I’m currently reading: Primal Branding, The Design of Everyday Things, Reason for God, and In the Hurricane’s Eye.

A talent I wish I had is: The ability to read music and play the piano beautifully and effortlessly.

My favorite movies are: Waking Life and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou.

My idols include: Anyone who chooses to think beyond the ephemeral demands and impulses of routine and then leverages that perspective to invest in other people.

What are you currently binge-watching? Not enough time to binge-watch anything really; however, I am trying to catch bits and pieces of “The Last Dance”, a superiorly executed documentary about the 90’s Chicago Bulls last season with MJ.

My favorite quote is: “The quest is to be liberated from the negative, which is really our own will to nothingness. And, once having said yes to the instant, the affirmation is contagious; it bursts into a chain of affirmations that knows no limit. To say yes to one instant is to say yes to all of existence.” -Otto Jürgen Hofmann

I am fascinated by: God’s beautiful creation; especially anyone who gives their time and effort to others.

My top three items on my bucket list are: To grow old with my wife, see my children grow in their communion with God, and set up a furniture and woodworking shop.

What I love most about what I do at Meridian Group is: The people, 100%.
